Welcome to the LeClair Irrigation District website.

The LeClair Irrigation District is governed by an elected three-person Board of Commissioners as authorized by Wyoming law. The canal system is divided into three separate sections along its length, and there is one Commissioner elected from each section on a three-year rotating basis.

HIstory

LeClair Irrigation District was formed in 1921 to provide irrigation water to approximately 13,600 acres of farmland and other water users in the Riverton, Wyoming area through the LeClair-Riverton Number 2 Canal. The District is authorized to divert water from the Big Wind River by virtue of Wyoming state and tribal reserved water rights totaling 220 cubic feet per second (more or less), with the ability to increase that amount when the river is in a surplus condition, and deliver it to landowners within the boundaries of the District who are current on their Irrigation District assessments. There are approximately 180 separate individual head gates and a number of pumps along the main canal which are used to serve the 13,600+ acres.

Meeting Notice:

Monthly meetings are typically held on the 1st Thursday of each month unless there is a conflict.

The next monthly meeting will be held Thursday, July 9,  2026, at 2:00 PM at the Fremont County Fair Annex Building 875 Gasser Road Riverton WY.

Attention LeClair Irrigation District Water Users

Pump Permit Rotation Notice

We are asking all pump permit holders to follow an alternating-day pumping schedule.

  • If your pump permit number is even, you may pump only on even-numbered days.
  • If your pump permit number is odd, you may pump only on odd-numbered days.

Examples:

  • Pump Permit #1 may pump on June 1, 3, 5, 7, etc.
  • Pump Permit #2 may pump on June 2, 4, 6, 8, etc.
